inanimate objects weekly summary
Weekly Summary, week one!
Advancement In the inanimate object brief;
so far I have created my thumbnail ideas and have begun creating my animatics, remaking/changing angels/shots ect.
I am confident with what objects I want to use, scissors and a pencil, a conflict caused by their desire for the same sheet of paper. Already having explored different ideas, I have settled for what I want to happen, pencil and scissors race down towards the paper, both manipulating the paper, the scissors in a more vicious manor cuts the paper, chases the pencil and cuts it in half, winning the paper all to its self. I kept re doing my animatic to the point I was able to cut down the cuts and shots so it was appropriate to the brief (only three shots/ and cuts) and made it so the camera moves smoothly and dynamical. Including shots that is an establishing shot, but also looks like an over shoulder shot, to distinguish the relationship between the two objects, conflict. It creates an opposing shot, reflecting them as rivals. Using the language of film, such as mise en scene, cinematography and sound that holds conventions too different scenes and genre in films. I have used this to further connect and establish the expressions I am creating, through pose, shot type and music. for example, I plan to show them as opposites with establishing/over shoulder shot, and have western show down music commonly used in cowboy films. Anther convention I tend use is in a close up of the scissors snapping its blades together like teeth, I plan to have a similar score to the jaw theme music when ever the shark attacks, to represent the scissors actions even more aggressive and predator like, which will follow the action of him then cutting the pencil in half.
I have gotten to a point in my animatic where I am happy with the action and shots, I just need to add some colour for reference and add the music for clearer explanation of action to further establish what's happening.
For further research I plan to look at some of Tim burtons films that tend to feature a dark gloomy background, and camera his style to the artists Van Gogh and David Hockney, who also represent night time in unique ways. I plan to also watch some scenes from shark scenes, conflicts, cow boy films and watch ways inanimate objects are animated.
Besides that, I will also be doing some physical Research of drawing the objects and exploring the ways they could move; weight, ways the pencil rolls, the way scissors close and opens. And possibly watching how pencils snap, and the way they land.
Here is a mood board I made of some of interesting shots and colour pallets by Sin city that I would like to explore.
